SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — State-of-the-art Micro Equipment has discovered a new man-made intelligence computer chip in its contest to take on rival chipmaker Nvidia, inside supplying the inspiration for a rate of growth in AI-fueled business resources.
The semiconductor company, situated in Santa Albumina, California, detailed its fresh MI300X computer chip as “the world’s sophisticated accelerator with generative AI.” It’s supposed to attract curiosity from huge cloud services such as Amazon or Microsoft, but AMD hasn’t specified which cloud provider might make use of it.
CFRA senior equity expert Angelo Zino predicted in May that AMD’s MI300 cpu “sees significant curiosity from cloud providers and via with NVIDIA’s Grace Hopper Superchip.”
“AMD’s stronger partnership with Microsoft also should drive benefit, as it is apparently cited being developing a personalized processor chip that Microsoft uses for AI workloads,” Zino wrote.
AMD CEO Lisa Su demonstrated the newest technology at a showcase event in San Francisco on Thursday.
Political Toons
AMD joins a growing list of technology organizations trying to reap the benefits of a larger interest from businesses seeking new AI tools that could analyze data, make decisions, and potentially replace certain tasks currently performed by human employees. Much of the interest is about “generative AI” resources such as ChatGPT that can generate works of writing, as well as photos, computer code, and other media.
Nvidia, also based in Santa Clara, has carved out itself a position as the lead provider of AI chips, a term that encompasses hardware that’s specialized to handle workloads such as the “training” of AI systems on large troves of data.
Nvidia, previously one of the most valuable companies in the world, joined the exclusive club of companies worth more than a trillion dollars shortly after forecasting a massive earnings boost thanks in part to chips generated for use with artificial intelligence technology.
