On Monday night in Aspen, a bear managed to infiltrate the kitchen of the St. Regis Aspen Resort. During the incident, a security guard, who was on duty to investigate a bear sighting, was attacked by the animal.
After being scratched by the bear, the guard was immediately transported to the hospital for medical attention. He received necessary treatment and was subsequently discharged.
After midnight on Tuesday, the Aspen police and Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers successfully located the bear; however, they faced difficulties in tranquilizing or capturing it. Consequently, the search operations were temporarily suspended but later resumed on Tuesday evening.
Investigators determined the bear entered the hotel through doors near the courtyard. Officials did not identify the victim but are urging people in the Colorado high country to be “bear aware.”
It’s at least the second bear attack in Colorado this month; A mother bear was euthanized after charging two boys in Colorado Springs. Her cub also died after being tranquilized.
