President Biden informed CBS News’ 60 Minutes that he intends to hold a virtual meeting on Friday with the families of Americans who are currently missing and potentially held captive by Hamas militants.
More than a dozen Americans are unaccounted for after Hamas launched an attack on Israel on Oct. 7, killing at least 1,300 people. The White House believes a number of Americans are among those being held hostage by Hamas, which the U.S. has designated as a terrorist group.
“I want them to understand that the president of the United States of America genuinely cares about their situation – genuinely,” stated Mr. Biden during his conversation with CBS News’ Scott Pelley. “It is crucial that we convey to the entire world the gravity of this situation. Such inhuman acts are beyond comprehension. It is sheer barbarism. Rest assured, we will utilize every resource available to bring them back home, provided we are able to locate them.”
In the face of Hamas’ attacks, Mr. Biden has made it clear that he and the United States stand firmly in support of Israel.
“We stand with Israel,” the president said in a speech Wednesday. “And we will make sure Israel has what it needs to take care of its citizens, to defend itself and to respond to this attack. There’s no justification for terrorism. There’s no excuse.”
