Toews has spent three seasons with the Avs, and his seven-year contract extends until the 2030-31 season.
During the previous season, the team’s highest number of blocked shots, 138, was achieved by the 29-year-old. Additionally, he ranked as the second-highest scoring defenseman for the Avs, contributing 50 points (7 goals, 43 assists).
At the beginning of this season, Avalanche General Manager Chris MacFarland emphasized the team’s priority of re-signing Toews, as stated in a prepared statement.
According to a news release by MacFarland, he stated that he has established himself as one of the top defensemen in the NHL and is an integral part of this team’s core. MacFarland further mentioned that he consistently plays significant minutes in various game situations, including 5-on-5, power play, and penalty kill. Additionally, he goes up against the opposing team’s top lines and is also among the leading defenders in terms of producing points in the game.
Toews had previously played for the New York Islanders before moving to Denver.
