On Saturday, Fort Collins police investigators declared that a fatal collision occurred at the intersection of South Lemay Avenue and East Harmony Road, resulting in the death of one individual.
Officers were alerted to the crash at the intersection and promptly arrived to find a severely damaged Mini Cooper that had collided with a traffic light pole situated on the northwest corner of the intersection, as reported by authorities.
In addition, it is said that a number of kind-hearted individuals were actively assisting the driver following the accident. Tragically, the driver’s death was confirmed at the crash site.
Sergeant Mike Avrech, who supervises the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team, expressed gratitude for the officers and kind-hearted individuals who promptly responded to and intervened in the crash, making every effort to rescue the driver. Although the investigation into the causes of the accident is ongoing, our heartfelt condolences go out to the driver’s family during this challenging period.
In addition, the Fort Collins police stated that the engine compartment suffered extensive damage, resulting in a fire that broke out within the passenger compartment of the vehicle.
Several officers utilized fire extinguishers to extinguish the fire until the Poudre Fire Authority arrived at the scene.
According to reports, Harmony Road heading west was closed between Wheaton Drive and Boardwalk Drive, and Lemay Avenue was closed in both directions from Wheaton Drive to Oakridge Drive. This closure lasted for about four hours as authorities conducted an investigation at the scene.
Authorities are currently investigating the main factors of the collision involving a Mini Cooper that was traveling westbound on Harmony Road. The vehicle veered off the roadway and collided with a light pole. It is important to note that the vehicle only had one occupant, an adult driver.
