In light of several injuries affecting the Colorado Avalanche goalie pipeline, the hockey club has recently unveiled a strategic maneuver to prepare the team for the commencement of the 2023-34 NHL regular season.
Recently, the Colorado Avalanche acquired goaltender Ivan Prosvetov off waivers from the Arizona Coyotes. This decision was made due to Pavel Francouz, the backup goaltender, starting the season on the injured reserve list. Consequently, Alexandar Georgiev, the starting goaltender, will maintain his position in the net for the Avalanche.

According to the Colorado Avalanche website, Prosvetov has mainly been splitting his time during his professional career between the minors and the NHL. He had a 4-3-0 record with a 3.98 goals against average and a .880 save percentage in seven games for the Coyotes last season. He also went 16-13-4 with a 3.06 goals against average and a .900 save percentage, including a shutout, over 35 games with the AHL’s Tucson Roadrunners last year.
It remains uncertain whether Prosvetov or goaltender Justus Annunen will step in as the immediate backup during Pavel Francouz’s absence.
It is worth mentioning that Prosvetov, originally from Moscow, Russia, had his first NHL appearance in 2021 at Ball Arena, facing off against the Avs.
As the regular season gets underway, the Avs also announced the recent signing of prospect Saige Weinstein to a three-year, entry-level contract.
