If you’re considering swapping out your tires for something that can handle the snow on the way, tire stores in Colorado are saying sooner is better than later this year. Utopia Tire in Frisco has been ramping up its stock on winter tires for the demand that comes each fall for months.

“Since March, we have been diligently getting ready for this,” stated Tim Paich, the general manager. “Last year, we wisely initiated the ordering of our winter tires, anticipating a scarcity this year.”
According to Paich, the process of purchasing tires has become increasingly difficult due to Russia’s predominant role as the primary exporter of this product. Since the invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent imposition of sanctions by the U.S., the availability of winter tires has significantly declined.
According to Paich, the factories producing tires in Russia have ceased operations, resulting in a significant shortage of winter production that cannot be replenished for several years. He mentioned that the situation was manageable the previous year because of existing inventory. However, this explains why we had to purchase tires in March, April, and May to ensure our customers’ needs were met.
According to current forecasts, meteorologists in the First Alert Weather Center are anticipating the arrival of the first winter snowstorm in the high country on Thursday. As a result, the tire shop has already witnessed individuals visiting to ensure their preparedness for road conditions, particularly on Interstate 70.
Paich emphasized the urgency for Summit County, stating that the situation differs slightly for those residing on Colorado’s Front Range.
Paich cautioned, “If you’re residing in this area, it would be wise to prioritize acquiring tires. You can choose the timing that suits you best, but I strongly advise setting aside some funds and promptly obtaining secure tires. Trust me, as Thanksgiving approaches, the availability of tires will dwindle significantly.”
