Keystone has been really excited about its 2023-2024 season with a new lift to access 550 acres of previously inaccessible terrain for skiers and riders, and resort spokespeople were keeping their fingers crossed for the first bit of terrain on the mountain to be ready to roll in late October.
Although opening soon is still possible, there are numerous tasks that need to be swiftly accomplished in order to achieve that ambitious objective.
Max Winter, a spokesperson from Keystone, aptly named for the season, expressed our fortunate ability to make the most of the exceptional cold weather periods last week. Regrettably, this week, we anticipate slightly warmer temperatures.
Keystone’s aim is not to fully open the entire mountain summit for skiing, but they are striving to make two miles of skiable terrain available as quickly as they can. This is made possible, in part, by their snow machines which are designed to produce snow when it is likely to adhere, and cease operation when it is not.
Winter stated that if they could produce snow continuously for 24 hours, they could have this mountain operational within a span of two to three days. However, Winter acknowledged that such a demand from Mother Nature would be quite significant.
Keystone was hesitant to provide specific dates when questioned about the opening day timeline. However, they mentioned that Halloween is a desired goal, depending on favorable weather conditions.
