With Massachusetts online betting, credit cards won’t always be an option for depositing funds.
Credit and debit card deposits are usually linked together in deposit methods. However, in jurisdictions where this option isn’t available, such as Massachusetts, only a debit card alternative will be provided. On the deposit screen, sportsbooks will clearly indicate which credit cards are not accepted.
So, what are the alternative ways to deposit? Does this hinder the sports betting process in any way? Is it really that big of a deal?
I live in a state where credit cards also aren’t accepted for sportsbook deposits. Here is my personal experience.
Ma Sportsbooks Encourage Debit, Although not Credit
FanDuel tends to have the clearest guidelines with an immediate notification at the top of the screen.
PointsBet displays the deposit limit under the “Credit Card” option.
DraftKings states that local jurisdiction may only accept debit cards when that option is selected.
All Ma sports betting websites will provide a notice that your bank may not accept gambling transactions. This is happening less frequently as gambling becomes legalized across the US, but it may still be a restriction at some local banks.
Even if credit cards were an option on the deposit screen, I wouldn’t use them on a personal level. There are often cash advance fees associated with using them. Remember that credit is money that is accessible but doesn’t belong to you.
It’s also not a favorable mindset to think that I have thousands of dollars readily available. I would have to pay high interest rates if I don’t pay off those debts. Instead, here are a few other methods I would use for online sportsbook deposits.
Procedures I’ empieza Used for Wagering Deposits
Charge Card
Today, the standard method I prefer for depositing money into any account is a debit card.
This option is now available on most major sportsbooks in the industry. If your debit card uses Visa or Mastercard for processing, there should be no issues with transactions unless your bank restricts wagering transactions. Other options like Discover or American Express may be limited, but the sportsbook will display what they accept on the deposit screen.
The debit card method is straightforward. Enter your card number, expiration date, and three-digit security code. Then enter the desired deposit amount and confirm the transaction. If a name is required, the debit card must be under the same name as the account holder. Usually, the sportsbook saves the debit card information for even faster deposits.
Undoubtedly, the biggest advantage of using debit cards is lightning-fast withdrawals. With the same card, funds can be withdrawn from a sportsbook account very quickly. In many cases, money will be credited back to the debit card within 24 hours.
In my experience, regular withdrawals have been completed within five hours when using sportsbooks like DraftKings and BetMGM. Note that the debit card withdrawal option may not be available even if the deposit method is.
Internet Banking
Another easy method to deposit and withdraw using the same method is online banking.
This process has become standard across all sportsbooks. Transactions are handled securely by a third-party company, Trustly.
Sportsbook operators do not have access to personal banking information with this deposit or withdrawal method. Trustly also accepts a wide range of bank accounts.
This was the default method I used until debit cards became widely accepted. While deposits are instant, withdrawals can take longer to process and complete. Typically, most withdrawals using this method took one day to be processed.
Can I Start using a Credit Card By way of PayPal?
Gamblers will not be able to game the system by using a credit card through an online wallet such as PayPal.
During the transaction process, PayPal will reject any credit card that is attempted through the deposit method. Some sportsbooks, like FanDuel, do not even accept credit card transactions via PayPal. In those cases, money is only accepted from what is already in the PayPal balance or if the bank account is connected.
