Want some exciting news? Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, a sanctuary located in Eureka Springs, recently welcomed a 6-month-old tiger to their facility.
Turpentine Creek specializes in rescuing big cats from the exotic animal trade. In March, they received 35 big cats from Big Cat Rescue, an organization involved in dismantling Joe Exotic’s operations, as seen in the “Tiger King” documentary.
The new cub, named Fred, is described as “energetic and playful” with a natural zest for life. While details about his background haven’t been provided, his arrival marks the first rescue operation at Turpentine Creek since President Joe Biden signed the Big Cat Public Safety Act into law in December 2022. The act makes it illegal to privately own big cats, although current owners have until June 20 to register their animals with the authorities.
Since its establishment in 1992, Turpentine Creek has been actively involved in rescuing and providing care for over 500 animals that have experienced abandonment, abuse, and neglect.
