I just signed up for all six sportsbook apps available in Massachusetts ahead of March Madness.
Four sign-ups were smooth and easy, but the average experience was not so great.
For most users, joining an online sportsbook account simply requires providing personal information during the registration process. This includes the user’s name, address, and sometimes a portion of their Social Security number. Occasionally, Massachusetts online sportsbooks are unable to verify a customer’s identity, so they may request a government-issued ID or a utility bill.
These documents can be reviewed manually, and that takes time. WynnBET and Caesars Sportsbook required additional verification from me. I had to submit my driver’s license and a utility bill to both sportsbooks.
It took WynnBET several days to verify my identity, while Caesars Sportsbook took seven days. (Yes, I couldn’t use the app for a whole week.)
Here’s what happened.
WynnBET creating an account
At the beginning of WynnBET’s identity verification process, I was asked to submit my driver’s license and a utility bill with my current address. I received a message confirming that my verification request had been processed. There was also a text in red in the sidebar menu of the app.
All that was left to do was wait.
I submitted the documents on the morning of Saturday, March 16. I didn’t hear back until the afternoon of Tuesday, March 21. It was a quiet four days, but the text on my account still indicated that verification was in progress. Once I was approved, my deposit went through, and I started betting.

Caesars Sportsbook sign-up
Caesars Sportsbook took seven days to verify my account. It could have taken even longer if I hadn’t contacted support on the seventh day.
Initially, Caesars only required my driver’s license, and I uploaded it on Saturday, March 18. When I reached out to support via email the following Friday, March 24, I was asked to also provide my utility bill.
Caesars’ email support was excellent. The person I communicated with was clearly knowledgeable, efficient, and polite. After exchanging emails with Caesars support, my account was activated within a few hours. It’s frustrating that Caesars took so long to verify my account, but I had to wait until the gap between the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight to begin playing.
Verify i . d at over the internet sportsbooks throughout Massachusetts
I just encountered problems in Colorado, where my driver’s license and utility bill addresses don’t match.
The same applications that were available in Massachusetts have been available in Colorado for many years. People who have moved from Massachusetts or bettors who frequently move should be prepared to go through the identity verification process.
March Madness is almost over. Unless bettors have developed a pandemic-era fondness for South Korean baseball and international ping pong, the next popular games to bet on are several months away. Bettors with identity verification issues will have enough time to wait for their verification to go through.
The six currently available apps in Massachusetts are DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars, FanDuel, WynnBET, and Barstool Sportsbook. BetR plans to launch in September. Fanatics Sportsbook and Bally Bet are expected to launch in May. Betway is scheduled to launch next January.
