The majority of that revenue, $104.8 million, came from slot machines and table games. This figure is slightly lower than May 2022, and overall, Detroit casino revenue for the first five months is nearly the same as a year ago.

MGM Grand Detroit remained the leader among Detroit casinos, generating $49.3 million in slot and table game revenue in May. This number is slightly lower (1.4%) than the previous year for MGM. MotorCity Casino ranked second with $32.1 million in revenue, while Hollywood Casino at Greektown generated $23.3 million. The good news for Hollywood Casino is that it saw a 7.4% increase from a year ago, while MotorCity experienced a 7.1% decrease year over year. The Detroit casinos paid $8.5 million in taxes to the state and $12.5 million to the city of Detroit. The total slot and table game revenue for Detroit casinos is $540.5 million for the first five months of the year. In 2022, it was $538.6 million during the same timeframe.

Retail sports betting at the Detroit casinos had a slightly mixed outcome. They took in $16.9 million in wagers, which was a 25% decrease from the previous year. Nonetheless, the $16.9 million would have been the third-lowest month of 2022. In total, the retail sportsbooks at Detroit’s casinos generated $893,732 in revenue. Barstool Sportsbook at Hollywood Casino had the highest handle of the three, with $7.4 million in bets. However, it ranked third in revenue at $27,545. FanDuel Sportsbook at MotorCity took $5.3 million in bets with $395,000 in revenue, while BetMGM Sportsbook brought in $4.3 million in wagers and $470,000 in revenue.
